Skilltech Process Engineering Consultant was established in April 2016 to provide process engineering and skill development services to refineries, petrochemical plants and other process industries.

We specialize in offering process-engineering services that include design and performance evaluation of process equipment. The uniqueness of our approach in providing solutions comes from our experience in the development of process engineering packages for the industries we worked with.

The success of engineering and technology related to any given process depends on the sophistication of the technology and the experience of the technology in the market place. A new technology, which claims to be the most cost efficient, may not always turn out to be the successful one. A technology gets matured when the learning from the problems faced in the commercialization stage is poured back into the process and the design gets refined and become reliable after years of experience. Through our working experience with several complex and closely guarded technologies in petrochemical industry, which faced many design and operational challenges during the commercialization stage, we gained considerable experience in finding solutions to those design and operation related issues across range of most commonly used process equipment.

Experience is our strength – Our experience in working with technologies and engineering consultants taught us invaluable lessons that getting the design right at the first time is the only way to make the client feel that the plant performance has met the stated objective of selecting a technology. Other wise the client will be faced with technology related issues and need to spend years in firefighting and rectifying the problem, most often at additional cost. We focus on services where we feel competency backed by experience can give the client solutions that will meet his expectations. In addition we have to our credit the successful execution of enhancement of plant operating capacity by debottlenecking. In one of the petrochemical plant, the plant capacity was increased by 50% through debottlenecking by detailed technical evaluation, selection and design of process equipment as well as modification of existing process equipment.


Training services

Knowledge is power and it is this power of knowledge combined with relevant soft skills gives the cutting edge advantage to process engineers and the organization to succeed in competitive business environment. To complement our process engineering solutions, we also specialize in offering skill development services through our on-site and off-site based capability building programs. The focus of the training programs is to develop competent chemical engineers, who can take up roles in process engineering functions in operating plants and engineering companies.

There is a misconception that if one takes a training course on a design simulation package, he can become a successful designer or process engineer. It is our considered opinion that unless get your fundamentals strong in the design of process equipment, it will be difficult to assume a career in process engineering. Many experience –guided decisions must be made both in selection of the input data and interpreting the output data before even the design can be considered final. Many of the geometry related specifications are not determined by the computer program and must be determined by the process engineer based on experience.

For example in the case of design of heat exchanger, required, but unknown, specifications, in addition to the process requirements of flow rates, temperatures and pressure drop include the type of heat exchanger and the internal geometry parameters. The engineer is required to select the best combination of parameters based on mechanical considerations, process considerations, fouling tendencies and allowable pressure drop. Once the above parameters are specified to the computer program,it can proceed to calculate the number of tubes required and the baffle spacing and the number of tube passes consistent with the required pressure drop for both the streams. So is the case with design of other process equipment. It is recommended that design by hand calculation should be done in first place before one starts working on simulation packages. Computer based simulation packages should be treated as tools to enable design of process equipment and not as substitute for building capability in design.

Often clients are faced with non-performing design upon commissioning of plant and process engineers working with the clients need to be aware of the fundamental engineering aspects of the process equipment so that they can take up with engineering consultants or the process licensor the design issues and resolve them quickly and return their plants to reliable continuous operation.
